[As usual, Draco has once again gone and made himself scarce from a majority of the village as he works out more of his inner dilemmas. First and foremost, there's Hermione. She's most definitely, definitely not the same Hermione and it's freaking him out.

Secondly, he's officially given up on searching for Caroline Forbes. After running into other vampires...it's safe to say the blonde will never show up again.

And thirdly...? Even with his power, even with his abilities to turn into a coyote or produce patronuses or blow things up, he's finding it isn't enough to make him happy.

Recently he's returned from a mission, but he couldn't help but constantly think about the last experiment. He'd been convinced he was someone else, and he had absolutely no memories of who he really was...and it was nice. He was able to function like a normal human being again. Normally, he would make an elaborate announcement about his return, but this time...well, he's already pieced together what's happened in the village, and he's not sorry he's missed the tornado. No, instead he's entirely focused on what he's determined to find out. When he opens his journal, he's only got one sentence he'd like to share.]

What do you reckon it takes to bargain with our captors to permanently erase memories? Just curious.

It's against the rules for districts to train possible tributes. One and Two always do it anyway -- the Capitol looks the other way because they like them and the districts don't call it that. Four usually sends trained tributes and they're in the pack.

They'll pull in others, too, if they're impressed during the four days training the Capitol gives us. Someone exceptionally strong or smart or fast. If they look like they'll benefit the Careers long run, they're offered a place in the pack.

So it's a way around the system almost. A practically guaranteed win.

But sometimes there's an upset. Someone from an outlying district can pull off a win.

Sounds like a failure on the career's end then.

It usually happens when the careers either don't control the food supply or something happens to it.

My year, the food provided was blown up, and we aren't taught how to hunt.

How hard can hunting be?

Ever tried it?

Not exactly.

It's not easy. Animals are smarter than you think, and traps aren't easy. Neither is sneaking up on something to kill it.

Humans are easier to hunt than animals.

Because humans are too overconfident and don't notice the simple things?

Sometimes. But humans also don't see, smell, or hear things are well as animals. They don't have prey instincts like most animals do.

And they say humans are the most superior mammals. Still, if you calculate it right even an animal can easily fall victim. I doubt I'd have trouble hunting if I actually needed to.

Lot harder to calculate then and there. Especially if you're in the Games and every minute that goes by, you are a more attractive prey for anyone else. Because you have to die before they can go home.

I'm learning how to hunt here. It's not easy. It's even harder when you have to worry about being hunted at the same time.

Fair enough, I suppose.
