Thirty-Seventh Hex - [Voice/Action]

[Hi Luceti. Today if you happen to be walking anywhere in the village, you might notice an overenthusiastic malamute attached to a leash. At the other end of said-leash is a rather disgruntled British wizard, more or less glaring at the dog as he's dragged along.

Stupid Arumat. Of course he had to disappear and shoulder him with the responsibility of yet another life. It was strange knowing that the man, the last original housemate, was officially gone. Not necessarily sad, though there was a hollow feeling he hadn't been able to shake off ever since he'd realized what had happened.

He didn't get much time to reflect on it though, seeing how the malamute has been working him. On their walk today, the dog's busy barking at pretty much everything, trying to pull Draco in all directions to sniff all the things.]

Gods, you're obnoxious, aren't you?

[He wraps the leash around his wrist to make it a tighter hold, using his free hand to make a grab for his journal while Edge is still pulling him along.]

I can't believe I'm asking this...

Dog training. What do any of you know of it? Time's a factor here, I'm half-tempted to toss him into the lake at this point.

[Later in the day, in fact, he will be at the lake. His lake. The South Lake. Edge the Malamute seems to have calmed down, but Draco's sitting up and a bit on edge. His wand's in front of him, and he seems to be concentrating.]

Expecto Patronum. [Nothing.] ...Expecto Patronum! [Still nothing. A frustrated sigh later and he's back to consulting Luceti as a whole. Though the journal's in his hands, he's hesitating for a moment. It'd be much easier if Hermione were still here, but she's not. That's a fact. She won't be returning anytime soon, so he'll have to make do with the resources he has.]

...second question for the lot of you. When do you reckon it's appropriate to give up on something?

[Sorry, Draco. Hisoka's been borrowing your lake for his own purposes lately. So he's around to watch the failed dogwalking and even-more-failed attempt at patronus-ing.]

You should never give up on your happiness, if that's what you're considering.

Dog training..? [ oh, she's a little excited about this, she loves cute dogs.. or cute things in general. ]

Um, do you have a pet? That's so nice..!

That depends on what you're giving up on, I suppose.

Appropriate? Hmm.

I don't know. I guess I never really saw it as a choice, before.

[Oh lord it's a dog. And not the sort of dog that greets you with licks and dances with you, this one is barking!

... Dogs are scary sometimes.

As soon as she can hear the dog Yotsuba stops and freezes in place. When it comes into view with its wizard owner her eyes go wide and she stares. Dead ahead. Don't come near her, bad dog.]

Rewards and punishment, such as it is, must be doled out immediately upon behavior you wish to encourage or discourage. Dogs will not remember that they did something you did not want them to do five minuets after the fact.

[Aang came across Mouthoil Malfoy while taking a stroll along the lake in search of a good spot to practice some Waterbending. The first thing he noticed was the malamute, which he quickly ran over to admire.]

Wow! That's nice - that's a dog, right? [He's still getting used to all of the non-hybrid animals.

[Jilly has never met a dog she didn't like...and the Malamute didn't seem to be an exception. She can't help but grin when she sees him tugging gamely at his leash, before she gives the scowling boy on the other end a sympathetic look]

He's beautiful.

[and appears to be quite a handful]

[She hadn't expected to laugh today. Not when she woke up that morning, realizing she had been eighteen now for a whole week. Eighteen and alive. Not when a part of her still feels as if she should be dead. It was easy to guess today would be one of those lost days.

Easy to sneak out of the house and hide herself in the western part of the woods, up in a tree, out of sight. Staying up there most of the day. Watching the squirrels and the birds. Trying not to think.

At some point, though, she does get restless. The journal's pulled out. And she sees listens to Draco's question. And, unexpectedly, she laughs. Remembers Prim yelling at her the first time she attempted to drown Buttercup.]

It works. Tossing them in water.

[John isn't really the tallest of kids-- he's maybe 4'11" or so. So Edge is easily as tall as his collarbone, which is probably why John kind of yelps when he turns a corner and nearly collides with the dog.]

Mother of-- augh that is a huge dog-- holy crap.

[He backpedals and kind of hops sideways, putting his hands up to avoid the onslaught of slobbering hellos the dog likely tries to administer, and looks beyond him to his owner.]

[Oh hey look, it's Draco.]

...Draco! [Perk.]

[Grune is just out on a stroll, wandering about, when she notices something a little different today. It's a puppy! ...Oh, and Draco, but it's a puppy! (Grune has a strange definition of what makes a puppy.)

Time to drift in their direction!]

Hello, Draco! Did you make a new friend?

When to give up depends on how important it is. Some things, you should acknowledge and move on when they don't work. Other things, you have to keep trying. The consequences are too high otherwise.

[Anita's clear on the other side of the road and going the opposite direction when she comes across Draco and his enthusiastic charge, but the five-year-old inside everyone's brain when it comes to cute animals screams PUPPY at her and she changes her path to catch up.

Hello, Draco; have a girl about your age with a Haitian accent who looks a lot happier than you do.]

Hey, mon, do you mind if I pet your dog? He's such a cutie!
